Charlie Patrol District has an area of approximately 20.98 square miles and a residential population of approximately 36,254. Charlie district has 6 public (2 high, 2 middle, 2 elementary) and three private schools. We are also home to Cabarrus Virtual Academy and Performance Learning Center.
We have a total of 31 recognized communities with most of them being active.
Charlie currently has 21 patrol officers, 1 motor officer, 4 sergeants, and 1 captain assigned to the district. This is a total of 27 employees serving the district.
We are continuing to experience enormous residential growth with 81 single-family homes and 221 2-story townhomes under construction in Piper Landing neighborhood off of Rock Hill Church Road. Concord Parkway near Pitts School Road is home to Evolve at Parkway apartment homes that opened in April 2023 with 300 luxury apartments available. There is also new residential construction taking place on Concord Parkway across from Concord Farms Road.
Charlie district is home to the new Eli-Lilly research and pharmaceutical manufacturer that is scheduled to open in 2024. The construction is on pace to be completed early including some new traffic patterns to alleviate traffic congestion once the company opens.
Dorton park will be closed for the majority of 2024 while construction crews work to provide significant updates.
Captain Denan Sabanija started his law enforcement career with the Concord Police Department in August 2008. After completing Basic Law Enforcement Training at South Piedmont Community College, he was assigned patrol duties in Charlie District. Sabanija became a field training officer in 2013, then in March 2013, was promoted to the rank of Master Police Officer.
In 2016, Sabanija was promoted to Police Sergeant and took over the role of patrol supervisor. Sabanija served in both Adam and Baker districts during his tenure as a Sergeant. From 2019 to 2020, he was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division and was directly involved with many high-profile criminal cases. Sabanija was promoted in 2020 to the rank of Lieutenant. He serves on the department's SWAT team and is a firearms instructor.
Sabanija received the Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the North Carolina Training and Standards Commission.
