N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) maintenance crews will temporarily close the bridge taking Cabarrus Avenue W over Irish Buffalo Creek on July 11, weather permitting. This is the small bridge near the roundabout and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Plaza, not the Allen T. Small bridge. As a major thoroughfare to Downtown Concord, significant traffic impacts are anticipated.
According to NCDOT, the closure is necessary for crews to perform full-depth bridge deck repairs. The closure is ancitipated to last 3-4 weeks.
Drivers can follow a posted detour from Cabarrus Avenue to U.S. 601, U.S. 601/U.S. 29, McGill Avenue and Kerr Street, returning to Cabarrus Avenue.
Below is a map of the NCDOT detour and more information is available here.
