City of Concord government offices will be closed on Friday, March 29, for Good Friday. The annual Bunny Run 5K & Festival returns to Downtown Concord on Saturday, March 30. The event kicks off with a free one-mile fun run at 8:30 a.m. and festival activities along McCachern Boulevard begin at 9 a.m. During the event, McCachern Boulevard will be closed to through traffic, and lane closures will be in effect on Union Street South and Corban Avenue on Saturday morning to accommodate the Bunny Run 5K race route.

Holiday Schedule for City Services

  • Garbage, Recycling, Bulky, and Yard Waste collection will operate on a regular schedule.
  • Rider Transit will operate on a regular schedule.
  • City Recreation Centers will be open on Friday from 12-6 p.m. The David Phillips Activity Center will be closed.
  • ClearWater Arts Center & Studios will be open from 12-5 p.m. and Lake Fisher will be open from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Friday.

Bunny Run 5K & Festival

On Saturday, March 30, the annual Bunny Run 5K & Festival returns to Downtown Concord. The event begins with a free one-mile fun run at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K race and festival activities starting at 9 a.m.

There is still time to register for the Bunny Run 5K! Online registration is available through Saturday with additional opportunities to register in person the day of the race.

The festival will take place along McCachern Boulevard from 9-11 a.m. and features inflatables, face painting, a balloon artist, kids’ crafts, cotton candy, food trucks, music, and dancing with the Easter Bunny! The festival is free to attend.

Event Road Closures

Road closures to accommodate the event will begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday, March 30. During the event, McCachern Boulevard between Cabarrus Avenue and Corban Avenue will be closed to through traffic. Businesses on McCachern Boulevard, including the U.S. Post Office, will remain accessible via Means Avenue, however, motorists will be allowed to make a right turn only from Means Avenue onto McCachern Boulevard.

To accommodate the 5K race route, the northbound lanes of Union Street from Tribune Avenue to Corban Avenue will be closed starting at 8 a.m. and the eastbound lane of Corban Avenue from Union Street to Branchview Drive will be closed starting at 8:50 a.m. Motorists can access Union Street from Sunnyside Drive and access Corban Avenue using Virginia Street.

No parking will be allowed on either side of Union Street between Tribune Avenue and Corban Avenue from 8-11 a.m. and towing will be enforced.
