The City of Concord Public Art Commission is seeking artist submissions for two public art projects in Downtown Concord. Artists are invited to submit their designs for the first annual Downtown Concord Sculpture Show and for a new mural project on Union Street. This is an opportunity for local artists to showcase their work on the newly renovated streetscape on Union Street in Downtown Concord and enhance the downtown experience for visitors.

The City of Concord’s Public Art Commission, with approval from City Council, identified the downtown streetscape as an ideal location for new public art. The Public Art Commission (PAC) is working to establish an annual sculpture show, beginning with the selection and installation of four loaned sculptures to be installed on Union Street next spring and displayed for one year.

The PAC is also looking for artist submissions for a commissioned mural project on Union Street. The mural will cover an existing fence on Union Street near the intersection with Cabarrus Avenue. Mural designs should reflect the history, culture, and vibrancy of Downtown Concord.

Artist entries for both public art projects are due January 3, 2025. Artist selections will be announced in February 2025, and selected artists will receive a stipend for their work.
