Community Improvement Project Celebrates Local History and Collaboration

Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte and the City of Concord invite the  public to a mural dedication event on Thursday, April 24, at 3 p.m. to unveil a vibrant new piece  of public art titled “Whimsical Harmony” at ClearWater Arts Center & Studios in Concord. This  large-scale outdoor mural was made possible through funding from the National Neighborhood  Promise grant provided by the Republic Services Foundation and is part of a broader  community improvement initiative in the area.

The mural, created by Charlotte-based artist Jonathan Grauel, is the result of a community driven process. Selected through a collaborative panel that included members of the City of  Concord Public Art Commission, Grauel engaged residents through both in-person events and  surveys to ensure the final design reflects the unique culture and history of the surrounding  neighborhood. The finished mural brings color, whimsy, and storytelling to the ClearWater Arts  Center’s campus.

“This mural represents the spirit of community collaboration and creative expression,” said Beth  Morrison-North, Executive Director of Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte. “We are  honored to have partnered with ClearWater Arts Center, Republic Services Foundation, and the  City of Concord to bring this joyful, inspiring artwork to life.”

The dedication event will include remarks from:

  • Mayor Bill Dusch, City of Concord
  • Jonathan Grauel, Artist
  • Beth Morrison-North, Executive Director, Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte
  • Andrew Magee, General Manager of North Charlotte, Republic Services
