The City of Concord’s annual Streetlight 5K & Frolic returns to Downtown Concord tomorrow, Friday, July 11. This year’s event features a flat and fast race route exclusively under the streetlights of picturesque Union Street South. Both runners and non-runners alike are invited to join in the fun and light up the night while enjoying free festivities that include LED seesaws, a silent disco with glowing headphones, inflatables, a balloon artist, food trucks and music. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with entertainment along Union Street and the Courthouse Plaza, and food trucks on Barbrick Avenue.   

The following road closures and parking restrictions will be in place on Friday, July 11, to accommodate the Streetlight 5K & Frolic:

  • 12 p.m. – No parking along Union Street S., between Corban Avenue SW and Wilshire Avenue SW.
  • 2 p.m. – Towing enforcement begins for cars parked along Union Street S., between Corban Avenue and Wilshire Avenue.
  • 4 p.m. - Union Street S. closes between Cabarrus Avenue and Corban Avenue.
  • 6:30 p.m. - Union Street S. closes from Corban Avenue SW to Wilshire Avenue SW.
  • Motorists are advised to use Spring Street, Church Street, Virginia Avenue, and Cabarrus Avenue as a detour.

Online registration for the Streetlight 5K & Fun Run is available through the day of the race, with an additional opportunity to register in-person at the start of the event. The free one-mile fun run begins at 7 p.m. and the 5K race begins at 7:30 p.m.  The downtown entertainment and activities will run from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.
