The City of Concord government offices will be closed on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 in honor of Veterans Day. Due to the observed holiday, the November City Council Work Session will be held on Monday, November 10 at 4 p.m., and several City services will operate on a modified schedule.
The City will honor local veterans during the annual Veterans Salute 5K and 10K races in Downtown Concord on Saturday, November 8, presented by the American Legion Post 51. The City is also once again partnering with Cabarrus County and the Boys and Girls Club of Cabarrus County to host a celebration honoring our community’s local heroes. The event begins at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 11 and all community members are invited to attend.
Veterans Salute 5K/10K
There is still time to sign-up for this annual race through Downtown Concord to honor the brave men and women who have served our country. Online Registration is open through Saturday, November 8, with additional opportunities to register in person at the event.
A free one-mile family fun-run starts at 8:30 a.m. with the 5K and 10K beginning at 9 a.m. During this event there will be a food truck and kids' zone along McCachern Boulevard that will include a bounce house, inflatable obstacle course and basketball hoops, DJ, and a Humvee courtesy of the Army National Guard.
Event Road Closures
Road closures to accommodate the event will begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday, November 8. During the event, McCachern Boulevard between Cabarrus Avenue and Means Avenue will be closed to through traffic.
To accommodate the 5K/10K race route, Union Street South will be closed from Tribune Avenue to Corban Avenue starting at 8 a.m., and the eastbound lane of Corban Avenue from Union Street to Branchview Drive will be closed starting at 8:50 a.m. Motorists can access Union Street from Sunnyside Drive and access Corban Avenue using Virginia Street.
No parking will be allowed on either side of Union Street between Tribune Avenue and Corban Avenue after 6 a.m. and towing will be enforced.

Veterans Day Celebration at the Boys and Girls Club
The community is invited to honor local veterans with a special celebration at the Boys and Girls Club at 247 Spring St NW in Concord. The event is on Tuesday, November 11 at 11 a.m. and is hosted in partnership with Cabarrus County and the Boys and Girls Club of Cabarrus County. Refreshments will be provided during this free event and all are welcome to attend.
City of Concord Facility Closures and Service Modifications
Solid Waste Services
There will be no collection on Tuesday, November 11. All Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday customers will have a one-day delay for garbage, recycling, yard waste, and bulky waste collection.
Customers are reminded that all items should be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on their collection day. Customers can visit concordnc.gov/whatsmyday or download the CARTology mobile app to verify their collection schedule. Customers are also reminded to visit concordnc.gov/looseleaves to see when crews will be collecting loose leaves in their neighborhood.
Parks and Recreation
City recreation centers will follow holiday hours on Tuesday, November 11 and open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The David Phillips Activity Center and Lake Fisher will be closed on Tuesday. The ClearWater Arts Center and Studios main gallery will be closed. The ClearWater Ceramics Center will be open from 4 to 8:30 p.m. for scheduled programming.
Rider Transit
Rider Transit will operate on a regular schedule on Veterans Day. Military veterans are reminded that they are eligible for a Reduced Fare ID Card. Reduced Fare ID Card applications are available online or at the Rider Transit Center Customer Service Office located at 45 Transit Ct NW in Concord.
