The City of Concord is not only one of the largest and fastest growing communities in North Carolina, but also one of the safest. Ranked 15th safest city by Safewise, achieving this distinction does not happen by chance but by design. Participants in the 2026 Citizen Public Safety Academy will go behind the scenes and discover the many ways the City of Concord police, fire, and communications departments work together to create safe, desirable neighborhoods for families and businesses.
Registration for the Citizen Public Safety Academy is available online through January 31, 2026. The program is open to City of Concord residents and business owners. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and pass a background check to participate. The class size is limited to 40 participants and is filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. beginning February 10 and continuing through March 31.
During the 8-week program, participants will spend three weeks with the nationally accredited Concord Police Department, three weeks with the ISO Class 1 Concord Fire Department, and spend one week with the Communications Department, which includes the City’s 911 call center, radio shop, and fiber network management.
