A visit to Downtown Concord is music to the ears – literally – thanks to a new feature recently added to Union Street. Through the multifunctional capabilities of the new smart light poles, visitors can now enjoy music year-round while they shop, dine and explore the local public art scene. What’s more, the City of Concord is now offering free public Wi-Fi to downtown visitors.
The music and free public Wi-Fi are the latest additions to the revitalized downtown that also features expanded sidewalks for outdoor dining, customizable lighting to match the mood of any event, and landscaping that creates a park-like feel. These new features enhance the charm and appeal that have long drawn people to Downtown Concord as a place to live, gather, and grow a business.
In just the last six months, more than half a dozen new businesses representing a mix of retail, restaurants, and bars, have opened in Downtown Concord. Several more businesses have announced plans to open soon, including an innovative reimagining of a historic theater into a two-story shopping and dining hub.
While enjoying the new music on Union Street, visitors can also experience the City’s first rotating sculpture show and explore the many murals downtown. A recently added mural – Vivid Reclamation by Jake Summerour – captures the vibrancy of Downtown Concord while honoring the city’s rich history with nods to Concord’s textile and racing roots.
With so much to experience and explore, visitors are invited to stay connected with the City by using the free #CoCWiFi network to follow Downtown Concord on Facebook and Instagram, and visit our website downtownconcordnc.com for the latest events and promotions.
