Volunteer Opportunities

The City of Concord's Water Resources Department offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for residents.  We know many students are required to do a certain amount of community service hours.  If your volunteer hours need to be recognized for your organization, a certificate can be obtained from the Water Resources Department to acknowledge the hours achieved.

Adopt-A-Stream

Adopt-A-Stream is a long term commitment volunteer opportunity.  Please visit www.concordnc.gov/streams for more information.

We ask that you commit to completing 2 stream clean-ups per year.  Once you complete 2 clean-ups, we will place a sign on the public road near your stream segment, showing your group name as the group who adopted that stream segment.

Clean-A-Creek

Clean-A-Creek is the same as Adopt-A-Stream, but it does not require a commitment.  It is just a one-time clean-up!  Please view www.concordnc.gov/streams for more information!

Storm Drain Marking Program

Stormwater Services launched a Storm Drain Marking Program in 2010.  75% of North Carolinians think storm water receives treatment before it is released into local bodies of water.  Actually, it flows from the street, down the storm drains and directly into those bodies of water, without ever being cleaned up!  Volunteers may be seen around the City affixing placards to storm drains that say "No Dumping  Drains to Creek."  If you or your neighborhood would like to participate in the storm drain marking program, contact Heather Freeman at 704-920-5376 or stormwater@concordnc.gov.

Most neighborhoods are completed, please check the map below to find areas that are not done.
