Training Division

The Training Division is charged with the responsibility of providing all initial recruit training and certification, Fire, Rescue and EMS continuing education training and re-certification, specialty training such as collapse/trench rescue training, Confined Space, Haz-Mat, Technical Rescue, Emergency Vehicle Driving, Driver operator training, Incident Command training and Emergency Medical Technician.

The Training Division serves a diverse workforce including all ranks and divisions. The City of Concord is a rapidly growing city, and the Fire Department does what is necessary to keep up with the diverse and every changing emergency situations that may arise.

The Training Division currently has six uniform members consisting of one Division Chief , two daytime Training Captains and three Shift Safety and Training Officers (STOs). The Concord Fire Department Training Division operates in partnership with Rowan Cabarrus Community College, Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC), Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC),the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Fayetteville State University (FSU), and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC).

Training includes hands-on, classroom based, video conferencing and in-station company based training. The department is fortunate to have a staff of over 75 plus certified OSFM State Certified Instructors encompassing all major disciplines.


Training Center


The Training Center is located with Fire Station 3 complex located at 100 Warren C. Coleman Blvd N. The Training Center includes four classrooms; two of which are equipped for video conferencing, a recruit classroom, and a smaller classroom. Offices for the Training Division Chief and Shift Safety and Training Officer (STO) overseeing Training and Safety are located at the complex, also. A four-story training tower and a pump test pit (for testing up to 1,500 gpm pumpers) are on site. In addition, the training complex also includes ventilation props, a changeable search and rescue maze, and many other features to provide personnel with realistic fire and rescue training evolutions.

A secondary training area is included at Fire Station 9, which includes a community room that can be used for specialty classes and is equipped for video conferencing and can be split into two separate classrooms. A pump test pit (capable of testing pumps rated over 2,000 gpm) is also available.
